Here are the rules.

28th Annual River Raft Race Rules


No vessel that has won in the last two years will be allowed.

Raft Regulations: 3 Categories
- Mechanical
- Non Mechanical
- Best Decorated >New this year<>Specifications:
1. Rafts must appear as homemade. Flotation methods and devices can be used, however, once in the water, must be concealed by the decoration of the raft. (No visible canoes, kayaks, boats, inner-tubes or surfboards, etc)

2. Rafts can be propelled ONLY by wind or manpower, or a combination of the two (i.e. poles, paddles, sails, bicycles gear) or a combination of all mentioned. (No internal combustion engine powered craft will be allowed to enter the race.)

3. Any raft floatation device must be completely and independently buoyant no matter how it is placed in the water. (Any Styrofoam must be encased and secured so as to prevent abrasion.)

4. Crew must be able to carry raft, unassisted to and from the water. (All raft material must be removed from the water!)

5. All rafts must have registration number.

Crew Regulations:
1. Each member of the crew must wear at all times:
A. A U.S. Coast Guard Approved life vest. Cushions are not allowed.
B. One whistle per raft.

2. Crewmembers under 15 years old must be accompanied aboard raft by parent or legal guardian or present written, notarized permission form parent or legal guardian.

3. All crewmembers must conduct themselves according to the principles of good sportsmanship. Bumping into or interfering with another raft will result in immediate disqualification.

4. All crewmembers must refrain from horseplay during the race.

5. All local laws and ordinances regarding the use of alcohol must be obeyed by each crewmember. Intoxication will result in disqualification.

6. No crewmember may bring aboard glass containers of any size or description.
Captain:

Each raft must have an appointed Captain who is responsible for the following:
1. That both the Captain and Crew adhere to all Crew Regulations above.

2. That the raft is seaworthy.

3. The raft has not been overloaded with either passenger or cargo.

4. That there are sufficient lines for docking and towing.

5. That the raft is equipped with a litterbag easily accessible to the crew.

General Regulations:
1. Arrival time and sign-in for registered rafts will be at 9:30am at Riverside Resort Kayak launch ramp.

2. All rafts are to be pre-registered prior to race day. Registration is free until 2pm September 17th, 2010. Rafts may be registered up until 10am on Raft Race Day (September 18th) however, a $25 registration fee must be paid in cash.

3. Anchoring, tampering with buoys, waterway markers, navigational aids, or private property along the racecourse is strictly prohibited.

4. Decision of the race committee is final.
